Buddha Bubba’s Story:

Many weeks ago, Bubba was just like you, a happy redneck drinking beer and howling at moons ( usually Rebecca’s moons, as she and her pals sped past the driveway ). He had led a simple life up until that point, just working at the tarp plant, and getting thrown out of the occasional tavern.

But then, lightning struck. Bubba met Shei Lin, a student living in the same trailer court while commuting to Indiana University.

Bubba knew right away that Shei was special, and that he was going to just HAVE to do something wonderful to make her notice him.

Unfortunately, she seemed non-plussed, as it were, with the venison he gave her one evening, especially when she learned that Bubba had kilt it with his truck.

But Bubba did not give up. Frankly, he had not even hardly started the courting process. There is nothing in this world as determined as a horny redneck, remember this. Take an eight point buck in rutting season, stick a cowboy hat and a barded wire tattoo on him, and you’ve basically got your average single male redneck on a friday night.

Upon finding out that she was a Buddhist, he decided that, if she was not going to go to the Methodist church with him, he could at least show up at her Buddhist temple and accidently meet up with her.

Unfortunately, as you might have surmised by now, there ARE no Buddhist temples in Owen County.

So Bubba was forced to go online and seek out all that there was to know. He bought a few books from AMAZON , and was off to the races.

Shei Lin, alas, moved away - quite posibly because of the crazed redneck buddhist convert that kept dropping off shanks of venison for her - but Bubba was not deterred.

He vowed one day to learn her religion, win her heart - wherever she might be - and start a new life full of hope, wonder, and, well, Shei Lin’s undergarments lying on the floor. He also knew that it would not be enough to simply be Bubba, that she deserved so much more. He understood, in his heart, that he would have to become a literal Buddha, a fountain of growth and change in order to truly understand her needs and wants.

His buddies think he’s crazy - crazy like when Earl crushes one too many beer cans off’n his head - but Bubba knows he must do his best to bring understanding and enlightenment into this tiny little community if he hopes, one day, to find his true love, and win her heart.

And on that, Buddha Bubba was born.
